Découvrez la Chine autrement
Last summer, I worked in England at studios92 an accommodation booking company. I planed working 6 month there but after 3 month I quitted the company because the Boss was such a Jerk. Since I had asked me how I could explain my leaving during my internship oral report I have to do next October. And finally, yesterday I found the perfect answer: short and relevant. I found it in an interview by Guy Kawasky of Penelope Trunk.
The question was: What should I do if I work for a jerk? (Exactly what I was looking for)
And so she answer:
Leave. […] Staying in a job like this makes you look bad. People wonder why you put up with it. And, frankly, you should too. It’s like being an abused wife. The wife who stays always defends the relationship by how much she gets out of it, but to everyone else it is obvious that she should leave. The problem is a loss of personal perspective.
This is exactly the feeling I had when I left the Job! I think I will quote it during my presentation.

Internship UK sucks!!! it was a fucking nightmare.. everywhere people having stress because they were afraid someone would spend bad words about the reputation of Internship Uk or studios92. But even “reputation” is a word too important to be referred to Internship Uk or studios92. NO FOOD, NO RESPECT for the interns that must work without any salary, too many interns for one only company (around 60 INTERNS in New Romney, and I guess thre is NOTHING LEGAL with that), never ending PSYCO PRESSURE from the HR department, interns that must write lies , FALSE INTERVIEWS about hotels where they have never been IN, and “dulcis in fundo”, BEDBUGS AND DOG FLEAS in our beds!!! A lot of interns got BITES from those insects, and some others were suspected to have got the SCABIES!!!
During my last days in that shit place the chef that were supposed to cook for the company left us, and instead of call another chef, they pretended us, THE INTERNS TO COOK FOR EVERYONE, when interns had no experience at all about the kitchen. In fact 2 interns REFUSED TO COOK AND THEY GOT FIRED!!! I asked for a certificate, and I wanted it as soon as possible since I needed it to apply for a next job. They told me I could get it in 1 week instead of the 2 weeks I was supposed to wait for, but I had to pay for it. And I payed 15 pound, and I got it AFTER ONE MONTH!!!! What do you think about this place now? Why doesn’t the POLICE go to check what’s going on in New Romney at the STUDIOS92 (alias Internship UK) ????
HOW TO HELP PEOPLE TO BE AWARE OF THIS FROUD GANG???!!!

Sadly, I was one of those “interns”… for the good and the bad things. But even the nice people there (other interns, of course), work and life was not so far from that. In my case we were cooking all the time we were there.
The big problem is interns need to pass this to get diploms and in average stay for 2-3 months, so everybody thinks to leave as soon as possible and to forget it. Someone from any institution could do something, to ban this BIG FRAUD in the lists or to try to show this in media, because the big boss (only guy not intern and absolutely owner and controller of everything) knows well how to squeeze people in all the senses, and even you are working on that pseudo-job, he gets money from you, of course under nearly illegality.
One solution could be to film a nice documentary with interns versions and so on, its a nice thing to report, with hundreds of europeans (mainly) university students exploded. Where are these kind of journalist, I’m sure someone could like this kind of work.

@Rnr
One of their unwritten rules is that if you are cooking a lot..then the so called boss thinks you are not good. That is what HR told me..and I seen it myself. Guys who were a bit slower in their work (which is totally normal) got fired, were cooking a lot before that..

Hello I made an internship for half past one month and my personal opinion of this company is they are not serious. internship.uk basically his boss who use a fake name (Dinno Johson) in reality he is Algerian but for a marketing question he don t tell you this. The company has only interns as workers who are running the company being exploited during the week end as well, and the boss is the only one who gets the benefits from the hard qualified work of his interns without sharing nothing and the most incredible, you must pay to work without any coaching, nothing… Oh I am sorry, yes he paid some commissions, a few pounds, to HR interns with the purpose that they spy and report all activity to him. I know what I am telling, I worked in HR department, and the get commission for each intern they hire as well. If you are not cooperative with his policy and control, he try to humiliate you, fire, threats, etc… If you are still enjoying to go to this adventure, you must know, beside working entire weeks and week ends, you must be able to cook for everybody almost 40 or more persons, and the boss and his wife inclusive, be ready to be a waiter as well.
If you need more information about this internship company you can send me emails at jpb_port@hotmail.com I will be pleased to answer to your questions.
